Design-Build Carousel Mall Demolition

Project Description: The project is a Design-Build of the famous downtown hub that has been a central part of the entire city for many decades. The project included 2 anchor stores: a Montgomery Ward’s and a JC Penney. The project involved the complete remediation and demolition of the 1 million square foot mall. The remediation process included several Procedure 5 workplans in collaboration with the South Coast Air Quality Management District. Additionally, more than 600,000 square feet of fireproofing was removed from all beams using a 40,000 PSI jet blaster. This project was of extremely high profile and stood as one of the largest demolition projects in the city’s history. Its completion paved the way for the revitalization of a new downtown area for the city.

Rancho Los Amigos South Campus Demolition

Project Name: Rancho Los Amigos South Campus Demolition Project
Project Location: Downey, CA
Owner: Los Angeles County Department of Public Works
Project Description: This project encompassed the full remediation and removal of 105 structures, along with stabilization efforts for 2 historic buildings and recycling of over 1,200 pallets of bricks. The project required the development of dozens of Procedure 5 work plans, which underwent rigorous review by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. All structures underwent thorough remediation and were subsequently demolished. Notably, the historic power plant’s stabilization process included lifting the cooling tower off the roof and implementing extensive shoring for support. The Casa Consuelo historic building was also stabilized, and a new roof was installed with proper drainage. The project was completed ahead of schedule, achieving a commendable record of zero safety incidents or environmental impacts. Furthermore, LA County provided a letter of recommendation in recognition of the project’s success.

General Mills Yoplait Yogurt Plant

Project Name: General Mills Yoplait Yogurt Plant
Project Location: Carson, California

Project Description: This project consisted of the complete asset and recovery of useable equipment and complete remediation and razing of the former General Mills plant in Carson in 2021. The site encompassed fourteen buildings, with a total area exceeding 200,000 square feet, situated on 30 acres. The remediation of environmental hazards was undertaken and completed prior to the recovery, salvage and demolition of the site. Resource facilitated the auctioning of equipment asset recovery for reuse at other facilities by first remediating any asbestos and lead. The entire site was razed, with all concrete broken down, processed, sized, and crushed into ¾” crush miscellaneous base for future building reuse on site, amounting to over 42,000 tons of concrete crushing. Through diligent efforts, Resource was able to salvage over 2,000 tons of metal. This achievement resulted in recycling over 95% of the materials on the project.

LAX (Los Angeles World Airports) People Mover Project

Project Description: This project encompassed the full remediation, razing of structures and site restoration of 42 buildings, including a 4-story building and the Travelodge Hotel over 120 acres. The project lasted over 1 year in two phases. Resource completed full abatement of all asbestos and lead throughout all the structures. The project was an extremely high-profile project that required extensive planning with LAX and the construction managers including a detailed schedule and work plans. All aggregate materials were transported to designated crusher yard for the recycling of all concrete to be crushed and reused on the project. The project was completed without any safety incidents and ahead of schedule. Recommendation Letter is included.

Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton Marine PTO-079 Water Distribution Plant

Project Location: Camp Pendleton near Oceanside, CA

Project Description: This project consisted of the first ever “tripping” on the base of a 500,000-gallon water tank. In fact, it was the first felling of a structure in the base’s history. The realization of this feat required extensive planning and collaboration with Resource’s engineer and base personnel. The tank was dropped in an environmentally and biologically sensitive area where avoiding disturbance was a critical scope element. This was accomplished with precise cuts to the leg structures, which ensured a controlled descent to a specific area. The tank landed exactly as planned, with zero safety incidents and zero biological or environmental impacts.
Contract Amount: $738,000 with salvage

Former Firestone Plant, LACCD

Project Name: Former Firestone Plant, LACCD
Project Location: Southgate, CA

Project Description: The hazardous material abatement of the original former Firestone Tire Plant. The hazardous material abatement consisted of 395,000 SF of multiple structures. The entire roofing was asbestos rolled roof and was abated in its entirety. The main building that housed the manufacturing facility was contaminated with asbestos skim coat that required a full containment of the entire building shrink wrapping it so vapor blasting could occur for removal of all the asbestos skim coat so the concrete could be recycled.

PG&E

Project Name: PG&E Hinkley
Project Location: Hinkley, CA
Owner: Pacific Gas & Electric Company
Project Description: The project is the site featured in the Erin Brockovich film. The project encompassed the full remediation including asbestos, lead and contaminated soil cleanup of 235 residential and commercial sites in the town of Hinkley for PG&E. The abatement of the town including removing cars covered in ash and asbestos and transported to an approved hazardous waste landfill. The project was very high profile and lasted over 3 years to complete.

Fort Ord United States Army Military Base – Seaside Surplus II

Project Name: (Former) Fort Ord United States Army Military Base – Seaside Surplus II
Project Location: Marina, CA
Owner: Fort Ord Reuse Authority
Project Description: This project was on the former Fort Ord Military site that was the chief training center in the nation during the Vietnam war. The site was closed in 1994. The site being heavily contaminated took many years for a plan of action on the cleanup removal. The project encompassed the complete hazardous materials and razing of 22 military housing building including (10) 3 story reinforced concrete buildings, cafeteria, gym, 2 armories and 6 administrative buildings. The project included extensive asbestos and lead abatement under intense scrutiny from various agencies including the air resources board. The razing of the structures encountered various obstacles as high strength concrete over 8,500 PSI and oversized footings sizing over 10’ X 20’ and depths of 30’ deep with bunkers that provided various obstacles throughout. Over 120,000 tons of concrete was transported and recycled for reuse on other projects. Over 338 loads of asbestos were transported to a designated landfill.

CEFCU Stadium East Demolition

Project Description: Demolition and contaminated soil removal for the redevelopment for the University football stadium. The complete demolition of the bleachers on the east side of the stadium including the massive scoreboard being salvaged for reuse. The removal of 55,000 tons of contaminated soil which included extensive testing throughout for RCRA, Non RCRA and California Haz. The removal of hazardous soil was done with (2) LBX750X4 excavators with 5-yard buckets averaging 200 loads a day for removal. The project was completed ahead of schedule to allow for the rebuild before the football season started.

El Camino

Project Name: Existing Student Services & Student Activities Demolition
Project Location: Torrance, CA
Owner: El Camino Community College District
Project Description: The abatement, soil remediation, demolition, grading and new utility installation of the former student services and actives buildings. The project consisted of the abatement and razing of the 96,000 SF buildings. The soil was remediated utilizing a vacuum truck within crawl spaces under the existing buildings before demolition could begin. The abatement was completed with a crew of 25 workers and the demolition had 13 pieces of equipment to finish within a time sensitive schedule to allow the work to be done during summer break. Over 17,000 tons of concrete was crushed to ¾’ rock and placed for the new building pads. The utility installation included the placement of new water, gas and storm drain with the connections meeting the existing service. The project was awarded the “Keenan Sewup” safety award for zero incidents and an outstanding safety performance.
Contract Amount: $3,030,000

Project Description: The abatement and demolition of (4) story structure with basement totaling over 70,000 SF. The abatement included the removal of extensive TSI piping throughput the basement. The demolition included the removal of the basement that covered the entire building which was backfilled with the crushed concrete from the building. The site was graded for the new development. The project was completed next to the Naval safety building with no incidents closely watched. References included.

Twin Rivers

Project Name: Twin Rivers Site Demolition Phase I & II
Project Location: Sacramento, CA
Owner: Sacramento Housing and Redevelopment Agency
Project Description: The project encompassed the complete hazardous material abatement, underground utility removal, back fill compaction, grading and razing of (93) housing apartments and a common multiuse building. The project was completed over two phases allowing build back for the new development. The project site was over 18 acres and started with some buildings still occupied working closely with the community to protect the residents from any exposure from the work. This project was directly for HUD and was a finished ahead of schedule without any incidents.
